When it comes to our daily nutrient needs, we all know how important it is to consume a wide variety of vitamins, antioxidants and minerals in order to maintain optimal health and wellbeing.

But one nutrient we probably don’t give much thought to is omega 3—when, in fact, it’s one of the most important for our health, especially as women. Boasting a myriad of benefits for our body, omega-3s or omega-3 fatty acids have also been well-studied and are proven to help with everything from boosting our brain health and eye health, to lowering cholesterol and supporting our nutritional needs during pregnancy.

Here, we explore what omega-3s are, their benefits and what The Beauty Chef’s OMEGA ELIXIR™ actually does…

What Are Omega-3 Fatty Acids?

Put simply, omega 3s are a group of essential fatty acids that our body cannot produce on its own and given they play a role in a number of important functions, we must obtain them through our diet.

There are also three types of omega-3 fatty acids:

  • Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA): which is usually the most common form of omega-3 in our diet and found in foods like flaxseedsflaxseed oilchia seeds, walnuts, canola oil and hemp seeds.
  • Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA): found in fatty fish like salmon, mackerel and sardines as well as fish oil.
  • Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA): also found in oily fish as well as meat, dairy and eggs.

The Benefits Of Omega-3s For Women

Omega-3s have countless health benefits, helping to support nervous system function, brain function and mood—as well as eye health, reducing triglyceride levels and risk of heart disease, improving metabolic health and combating inflammation—of the skin and body. They also encourage short-chain fatty acid production in the digestive system—strengthening the gut lining—and they’ve also been shown to promote the proliferation of beneficial bacteria, having an anti-flammatory effect on the digestive tract, too.

However, for women, omega-3 fats are even more important as they support hormonal health, helping to alleviate menstrual pain and support a healthy pregnancy. In fact, for pregnant women, increasing their intake of omega-3s through their dietary choices or by adding a fish oil supplement to their daily routine is incredibly important as these fatty acids are vital for healthy brain and eye development in babies. Not only that, but getting enough DHA during pregnancy is also thought to affect the intelligence of your baby!

What Is OMEGA ELIXIR™?

While there are countless omega-3 supplements available these days, OMEGA ELIXIR is unique in that it contains a synergistic blend of nourishing plant sources of omega 3, 6, 7 and 9 oils. This unique combination of bio-fermented algal oil, sea buckthorn fruit oil and black cumin seed oil work together to create a ‘matrix effect’ and increase its benefits—helping to maintain the structural integrity of the skin. Unlike traditional fish oil supplements too, OMEGA ELIXIR utilises bio-fermented algal oil that is suitable for vegans and vegetarians and is a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids.

Intended to reduce skin inflammation and promote a smoother, more supple complexion from the inside out—the final formula also contains evening primrose oil which is rich in anti-inflammatory gamma linoleic acid and helps to soothe dry skin, relieving irritation and inflammation. With an abundance of phytonutrients and antioxidants—including sea buckthorn fruit (rich in omega 7s) and astaxanthin which comes from freshwater microalgae and is a powerful antioxidant, this nourishing blend truly promotes overall wellness and more glowing, hydrated skin from within.
