Be Mindful Of Stress
Chronic stress can impact inflammation, irritable bowel syndrome and a number of other digestive complications, all of which can result in skin manifestations. In fact, studies show that excess cortisol (the hormone we produce when we’re stressed) actually breaks down collagen and elastin, the proteins responsible for keeping our skin plump, springy and healthy. Feeling frazzled? Here are five simple rituals to help you cope with stress from The Broad Place co-founder, Jacqui Lewis.
Sleep Soundly
When you sleep, your body fights inflammation and begins a process of cellular repair, which is essential for healthy skin. Aim for between 7-9 hours every night to ensure you wake up glowing! Need a little help in the slumber department? Be sure to check out some of our tips.
Up Your Fibre Intake
Inflammation is one of the main drivers of skin-related issues and premature ageing, but you can reduce its impact by eating more fibrous foods. Fibre supports your microbiome and promotes the creation of short chain fatty acids, which are powerful anti-inflammatory compounds. Get your daily dose by munching on plenty of vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, wholegrains and beans.
Do A DIY Face Mask
The 30 Days to Glow Challenge is all about promoting naturally luminous skin from within, but why not try a topical treatment, too? When they’re created with fresh foods that are alive with nutrients, enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids, DIY face masks are brilliant for rejuvenating the skin. Here’s one of our favourites:
- 1 tbsp mashed papaya flesh
- 1 tbsp almond meal (use oatmeal for oily, congested skin)
- 1 tsp olive oil (omit for oily, congested skin)
- 2 drops essential oil (optional, rose or sandalwood are good options)
Mix all of the ingredients into a paste and apply to a clean face. Leave for 15 minutes before gently washing off.
Embrace The Magic Of Movement
Exercise helps to keep your digestion regular and promotes blood circulation which carries oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells. Find a type you love—be it yoga, jogging, resistance training or barre—and aim to get around 30 minutes every day.
Eat The Rainbow
Pairing your daily dose of GLOW with a wholesome and unprocessed diet is a surefire step towards clear and luminous skin. Throughout the challenge, focus on upping your intake of fresh vegetables and fruits—they’re fibre-rich and contain a plethora of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that help to fight free radical damage, one of the main causes of premature ageing.
Drink More Water
This seems like a given, but many of us underestimate our daily intake of H20. Adequate hydration helps to keep your cells plump, which is essential for glowing, healthy skin. If you find that you’re falling short, there are a few things you can do to make that 2-3 litre target a little more achievable:
- Invest in a beautiful carafe to make the experience a little more enjoyable.
- Set a series of alarms throughout the day to remind you to take a sip (or two).
- Spruce up your H20 with one of our delicious Inner Beauty Boosts—COLLAGEN is always a winner!
Be Consistent
It isn’t called the 30 Days to Glow Challenge for nothing! While taking our bio-fermented beauty powder a few times a week is better than nothing, the most transformational changes are experienced when GLOW is taken every day for at least a month. In fact, the cellular turnover of the skin generally takes between 28-40 days, so be patient, persistent and consistent.
