Su Tuttle on Self-Nourishment and Slowing Down

In Get Glowing With..., we talk to the women catching our eye about what they’re doing, eating and loving right now.

Nimbus is about encouraging people to slow down and take time out to care for themselves,” says Su Tuttle, who founded the wellness studio with her husband in 2016. Along with state-of-the-art full-spectrum infrared saunas, the Sydney, Melbourne and Byron Bay locations offer sessions with holistic health practitioners specialising in treatments from acupuncture to naturopathy, as well as a covetable collection of lifestyle products—including The Beauty Chef!

In July this year, the former clinical nutritionist opened foile with her business partner Alexandra Grima—a concept store that’s home to refillable skincare and beauty products including a line of single-ingredient oil, gel and clay ‘Classics’. We visited both spaces in Bondi to talk cleansers, croissants and the routines that keep her grounded.

foile is... mostly about feeling good in your own skin and encouraging self-reflection. We wanted to bring joy back into skincare and do our part in shifting the industry to a more sustainable and progressive future.

My days consist of… meetings, decision making, creative direction, cleaning, supporting the team and running around Sydney like a madwoman! We still have such a small team across both businesses so I would definitely say I juggle many hats and it always appears more glamourous from the outside! I have the most supportive team and incredible business partners across both businesses so very grateful for them all.

Mornings are usually spent... walking our dog, going for a swim in the ocean or reading. I do my best to keep the mornings free for me-time before jumping into the day, however I’m definitely guilty of a morning email catch-up while drinking my coffee.

I usually make coffee at home... and then walk down and grab a juice. Breakfast comes a bit later in the day and depends on what I feel like—it could be avocado on toast, an omelette or I do have a bit of a love affair with Iggy’s croissants.

When it comes to skincare, I… keep it pretty simple. I’m a huge lover of oils and I’m currently using the Seabuckthorn Best Skin Ever from Living Libations. For cleansing I use the Clay Cleanser from Sodashi, and I also use Go-To tinted Zincredible for a light cover during the day. I’ve recently started a daily facial gua sha practice and getting acu-facials at The Calmm—my skin always feels glowing post-treatment.

The most important skincare lesson I’ve learned is… less is more! Wear a hat, get some sunshine and eat a nutrient-dense diet.

I feel most glowy… after a swim in the ocean and an afternoon snooze in the sun.

When it comes to wellness rituals… I’ve got to be honest, self-care really went out the window during COVID and I’ve only just started putting myself first again. It was a pretty challenging time for me personally so my approach right now is all about taking it slow, being kind to myself and finding the balance again. Non-negotiables for me are weekly infrared sauna sessions, daily movement and massages.

I manage stress… as an introvert by ensuring I spend regular time alone. If I’m feeling overwhelmed or anxious, it’s generally a sign I need to take a moment out for myself. Saunas have played a huge role in helping me stay calm along the way. I have dabbled in meditation over the years but I always find putting on a good playlist and going on a big old walk outside calms me right down.

My favourite workout is… Peaches Pilates. It’s my go-to. I love their community and it always makes my body feel strong. I’m definitely not a gym junkie and take it pretty slow with my exercise routine.

The food that makes me feel most nourished… is food picked straight from the garden or a meal shared with my friends over a glass of vino. It would also most likely include some kind of pasta dish!

My fridge is always stocked with… olives, butter and frozen berries.

In my handbag right now you’ll find… a perfume roller from Maison Louise Marie, The Beauty Chef FLORA FIX BALM and tinted moisturiser.

On my bedside table you’ll find… a jade Gua Sha, weekly blooms and about four different books that I’m attempting to get through.

The secret to a good night’s sleep is… switching off from all your electronics at least two hours before bed, a dark bedroom and comfy sheets.

Beauty is… feeling comfortable and content in your own skin. Beauty comes when we have a mutual respect for our bodies and everything around us.
