We chose to partner with a collagen manufacturer dedicated to sustainability, with production processes held to the highest animal welfare and environmental standards. The bovine collagen we use is called Verisol®—hydrolysed collagen peptides sourced from raw materials obtained from by-products of meat production. These by-products would otherwise be disposed of as waste but instead are refined and converted into a science-backed ingredient to support collagen production, skin elasticity and hydration. It’s important to note that no land is cleared in the name of our bovine collagen and further, no cattle are killed to produce it directly, rather the animal hide is derived from abattoirs of the meat industry already present.

The main difference between bovine, marine and vegan collagen is where it is sourced from. Bovine collagen is sourced from the hides and bones of cattle, marine collagen comes from fish, and vegan collagen is sourced from plants. How much collagen to take per day depends on which type you’re taking and its intended purpose. For example, hydrolysed collagen is more easily absorbed than some other types, with studies demonstrating that a daily dose as small as 2.5 grams a day can be beneficial in terms of supporting skin health and skin hydration (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31627309/). However, a larger review study confirmed that a recommended dosage of 2.5–15 grams of collagen per day may be safely incorporated into your daily diet (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31096622/). Plumpers™ contain no added sugar, artificial flavours or colours. Instead, the formulas contain natural sweeteners xylitol and thaumatin. Xylitol is a natural sugar alcohol, while thaumantin is considered a protein and is derived from the African katemfe fruit—both of which do not raise blood sugar levels.
